Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol fears Alvaro Morata could be the man to inflict serious damage on Barcelona tonight.
The Spain international began the season in prolific fashion following his club-record move from Real Madrid but has struggled with a lack of form and fitness in recent months.
Morata has only just returned from a niggling back injury but has gone 11 goals in all competitions without a goal and the January signing of Olivier Giroud has increased the competition for a starting place.
Antonio Conte lined up with Eden Hazard in a false nine position during the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago, but Puyol, who won three Champions League titles during a trophy-laden career with Barcelona, believes Morata represents a real threat to the likes of Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti.
‘I think he’s a very good player, he has scored goals,’ said Puyol.
‘He has had back problems but he is a dangerous player.
He is powerful. He could do damage to Barcelona. I don’t know what his physical condition is – whether he is at 100% – but he is an important player and Chelsea are missing him.’
