These photographs show the moment a man was arraigned on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend to death in an horrific bloodbath from a hospital bed.
Benjamin Walsh had the charges against him read out by Judge Steven Thomas – who wore full robes – at the intensive care unit of Milford Hospital, Ma., Monday.
The Boston Herald reported that he ‘wept and moaned’ as a prosecutor recalled details of the carnage he is accused of inflicting on girlfriend Olivia Bergstrom, 20.
His attorney Randall K. Power said Walsh was ‘in a bad way’ but did not comment on why he was in hospital, or why his wrists were injured.
Walsh denied killing his girlfriend of six months, and attempting to kill his own parents on Saturday, two days after checking himself out of McLean psychiatric hospital.
Attorney Norfolk District Attorney Lisa Beatty said Walsh had ‘told multiple witnesses’ at a restaurant ‘that he had murdered his girlfriend.’
He later went on to stab his parents in their stomachs, it is alleged, before other guests at a party he attended tackled him to the ground.
Olivia’s dad Paul said her death was ‘devastating,’ adding: ‘Our hearts are broken at the thought of Olivia not being in our lives, taken from us and her future in a way we cannot comprehend.’
Walsh was ordered held without bail pending a psychiatric evaluation.
