Manchester United are closing in on an agreement for Brazil full-back Alex Sandro with Juventus expecting the defender to move to Old Trafford in a deal worth around £50m.

Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen in full-back areas this summer with first choice pair Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young entering the final years of their careers at the Theatre of Dreams.

Sandro, 27, was keen on a move to the Premier League last summer and attracted interest from Chelsea but he’s urged Juventus to agree a deal with United this time around, according to the Times.

Juventus signed Sandro from Porto in 2015 for a fee of around £23m but they value the Brazilian above the £50m that Manchester City paid Tottenham for Kyle Walker last summer and will demand in excess of £55m.

The Serie A giants now ‘expect’ to agree a deal with United once the season finishes and the deal is likely to match Walker’s move to the Etihad.

That would make Sandro the joint-third most expensive defender in the world after Virgil van Dijk and Aymeric Laporte.

Sandro’s arrival will push Luke Shaw further to the exit door at Old Trafford and United want to recoup as much of the £27m they paid Southampton in 2014 as possible.

Mourinho will then target a right-back and at least one central midfielder to continue his overhaul of United’s squad.

Lazio star Sergej Milinković-Savić has been identified as a replacement for Carrick, who is set to retire at the end of the season, but Mourinho has admitted he will need a second midfielder if Marouane Fellaini refuses to sign a new deal.

Mourinho’s been handed around £150m to spend this summer but any fiunds generated from player sales will be relocated into his budget.

Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Shaw are all expected to leave, freeing up space on the club’s wage bill and in the squad.
