Arsenal are trying to block Mesut Ozil’s hopes of joining Manchester United next summer by selling him in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has reportedly told his team-mates that he will be moving to Old Trafford.
Ozil spent three seasons playing under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and the Portuguese boss referred to the Germany playmaker as the finest attacking midfielder in the world in 2015.
Arsenal had been keen on keeping Ozil and his agent recently said talks were progressing well over a new deal.
However, Ozil has made his mind up on a move to Old Trafford and that would come as an embarrasing blow to the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger has shunned Ozil in recent weeks and he will look to find a January buyer for Ozil to save the embarrasment of him joining the Red Devils, according to the Daily Mail.
Inter Milan are known to be interested in the German and Arsenal could even lower their asking price to move him out of the Premier League.
Arsenal travel to Goodison Park on Sunday to play Everton and it’s likely that Ozil will start on the bench.
