Science teacher ‘fed live puppy to turtle’ in front of pupils in “disgusting and sick” demonstration

A teacher has been accused of terrifying students by allegedly feeding a live puppy to the class snapping turtle.

Robert Crosland, a teacher at Preston Junior High in Idaho, is under investigation for the alleged demonstration which is reported to have taken place after school.

The puppy had deformities and it would die soon anyway according to parents speaking on Fox 13.

But animal rights activist Jill Parrish has slammed the demonstration as “disgusting and sick”.

“Allowing children to watch an innocent baby puppy scream because it is being fed to an animal. That is violence. That is not okay,” Ms Parrish said.

But some parents and former pupils have rushed to the teacher’s defence.

Annette Salvesen told the station: “If it was a deformed puppy that was going to die anyway, Cros[land] is very much circle of life.”

And parent Julie Johnson described Mr Crosland as the “best science teacher” in the school.

Former students told the East Idaho Post that Mr Crosland previously fed guinea pigs to the snakes and turtle he keeps in the classroom, though it was not clear if they were alive at the time.

“He is a cool teacher who really brought science to life,” a former student says. “I loved his class because he had turtles and snakes and other cool things.”

A release from the school asked parents be patient during an investigation and remember the “years of care, effort and passion” from Crosland.

Local superintendent Marc Gee said in a statement that the event was not part of a school event and that it was “a regrettable circumstance involving some of the biological specimens.”

Franklin County Sheriff David Fryar said the force is investigating the incident.
