Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly set to be sacked if Napoli fail to win on Tuesday – and that would free him up for the Arsenal job.
Former Chelsea boss Ancelotti has been linked with the vacant manager’s jobs at both Arsenal and Everton .
Ancelotti is under severe pressure at Napoli after nine games without a win in all competitions.
And he would be available for free if Napoli don’t beat Genk on Tuesday and crash out of the Champions League.
The 60-year-old Italian will be sacked if his side do not win their final Champions League group game, according to The Sun .
The publication claims the Serie A side already have Gennaro Gattuso lined up to be their next manager.
If Genk win or draw against Napoli, and Red Bull Salzburg beat Liverpool , the Italians will be out of the Champions League – and is likely to be the end of Ancelotti’s reign.
It was reported last week that Ancelotti was one of the names being considered by Arsenal bosses.
He won two Champions League titles while in charge of AC Milan, and has lifted the European Cup with Real Madrid as well as having masterminded league titles in four countries.
He has enjoyed spells in charge of Juventus , PSG and Bayern Munich.
But he has had to fight off claims his Napoli players want him out of the club.
“The team is against the coach, they say. But it isn’t so,” Ancelotti said after Napoli’s 2-1 defeat to Bologna last week.
He added: “I have an excellent relationship with the squad. No one has ever failed to respect me. I don’t see any friction between the players and us.
“We exchange ideas every day, the situation must be resolved quickly, because we are failing badly.”
Former Arsenal winger Freddie Ljungberg is in charge of the Gunners’ first team until further notice, after the club sacked Unai Emery last month.
Former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson is in interim charge at Everton after Marco Silva was given the boot last week.
