England vs Australia LIVE score: Latest Ashes scorecard from second day of fourth Test

England will be looking for early inroads on day two as they bid to solve the Steve Smith riddle and get a foothold in the fourth Ashes Test.

Australia reached 170-3 in 44 overs on a rain-affected first day at Old Trafford with Smith finishing 60* and well on the way to a third hundred of the series.

Marnus Labuschagne scored 67 and enjoyed a partnership of 116 with Smith before Craig Overton knocked back his off stump on his return to the England side.

The hosts enjoyed a successful start on day one as Stuart Broad removed openers Marcus Harris and David Warner cheaply, the latter for a second-ball duck, to leave Australia 28-2.

But Labuschagne and Smith’s recovery leaves the tourists in the driving seat with the weather set fair for Thursday.
