Gary Neville explains concerns over Man Utd transfer for Declan Rice

Manchester United are believed to be admirers of Declan Rice – but club legend Gary Neville has concerns about a move for the young midfielder.

Rice enjoyed a breakthrough Premier League campaign for West Ham last season and has picked up where he left off with some impressive performances in recent weeks.

It has led to the value of the England international skyrocketing amid rumours he could be targeted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to bolster his ranks at Old Trafford.

Rice fits the bill for Solskjaer’s rebuild as a young, British player with plenty of potential, with Neville a fan of the young midfielder and his ability.

But with a transfer fee of around £90milllion banded around, Neville is unsure whether he would represent good value in the market.

Declan Rice is a Man Utd transfer target and has been in fine form this season

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Neville was asked if he would buy Rice at United and said: “I don’t know. I mean, you talk about £80m, £90m to get him out of West Ham.

“We’ve seen a bid for Wilfried Zaha from Everton for £70m odd [which was rejected]. To get players out of the likes of West Ham now, Crystal Palace , it’s not going to be easy, so it’s going to cost a fortune.

“Would I say yes now at £80m or £90m? I’m not feeling that personally at this moment in time. But am I seeing a really good player who could potentially develop into something fantastic for the next 10 years? Yes, I really do think that.

“But would I go and spend that much money on a player [on potential]? Do Manchester United need another player [like that]?

“They’ve already got Nemanja Matic, they’ve already got Scott McTominay, who are doing a similar role to what I see Rice doing.”
