Jesse Lingard is reportedly prepared to snub interest from Arsenal to stay at Man Utd and fight for his place.

Speculation has linked the England international with the Old Trafford exit door this summer following his slip down the first-team pecking order.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lost faith in Lingard in recent months, using the 27-year-old as merely a bit-part player.

Lingard’s decision to join forces with super-agent Mino Raiola was seen as an indication he was lining up a move away from United, with Arsenal among a host of clubs keen on securing his services.

But the Metro report Lingard has no intention of leaving the Red Devils, and wants to fulfil the remainder of his contract.

The midfielder has a year left to run on his current deal, with United holding the option to extend by another 12 months.

Solskjaer is a big fan on Lingard but is aware he needs to raise funds if he wants to spend again in the coming transfer market.

Bruno Fernandes’ arrival has reduced Lingard’s playing time further, and he is no longer integral to the first-team.

United value Lingard at around £30million, and are hopeful of selling him, with Everton, Roma and Atletico Madrid also keeping tabs.

Lingard has made 34 appearances in total this season, though only half of those have been in the starting lineup.

Meanwhile Chris Smalling’s permanent switch to Roma looks back on after the defender received glowing praise from the club’s manager Paulo Fonseca.

Smalling has impressed on loan at the Stadio Olimpico this season, but United’s asking price looked to have put Roma off of signing him permanently.

However Fonseca’s latest comments suggest the Serie A outfit are willing to break the bank to land the 30-year-od.

“Chris adapted very quickly,” Fonseca said. “He’s an extraordinary guy, very intelligent. He has characteristics that I really appreciate in the centre.

“He’s fast, nearly unbeatable in one-on-ones. He has a great ability to read the play and anticipate. He was very important for this club.

“If possible, I would like him to stay. He’s a great professional and person, it’s a pleasure to have him here with us.”
