Liverpool set for Champions League boost as key Napoli pair out injured

Napoli could be without two of their key attackers in Tuesday’s Champions League Group E opener against Liverpool .

The Serie A outfit will entertain last season’s Champions League winners at their San Paolo Stadium next week in a repeat of two fixtures in the 2018/19 group stage, both of which were won 1-0 by the home side.

Lorenzo Insigne scored a late winner for Carlo Ancelotti’s men in the clash in Naples, but the Italy international – who also scored against Liverpool in pre-season in Edinburgh this summer – is a doubt for the meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds after he trained alone on Wednesday, according to Football Italia .

With the defeat away at Napoli one of three that Liverpool suffered on their travels in the Champions League group stage last season, that meant that the Reds had to beat Ancelotti’s men back at Anfield in their final group game.

They took the lead through a Mohamed Salah strike, but had Alisson Becker to thank for a fine last gasp save from forward Arkadiusz Milik – a save the Brazilian named as his favourite ever in a recent interview .

Milik is the second Napoli player who is rated doubtful for next week’s clash, with the same Football Italia report citing claims from both Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset saying that the Pole, who has already been out for a month, has suffered a setback in his recovery and will only return to training on Monday.

That will rule him out of the weekend’s clash with Sampdoria and surely also the Liverpool game.

If Insigne and Milik both miss the game then they could be replaced by summer signings Hirving Lozano and Fernando Llorente.
