Manchester United are facing competition from a host of clubs in the race to sign Edinson Cavani.
The experienced Uruguayan is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain next summer and could leave on a free transfer.
That has alerted a host of top European clubs, with the Red Devils amongst those linked as they aim to bolster their attacking options.
However, L’Equipe claim Atletico Madrid have joined United and Italian clubs Juventus , Napoli and Inter Milan in the race to sign the 32-year-old.
Cavani, who has scored 195 goals during seven seasons with PSG, could still stay in the French capital with Thomas Tuchel declaring his desire to keep him at the club.
He said: “I don’t know Edi’s ideas exactly at the moment. I count 100 per cent on Edi this season.
“He’s been missing for several weeks and the main thing for me is to push Edi on the pitch, so we’ve got a fit and in-form Edinson Cavani.
“He’s got the most goals for the club. Edi is very important.”
United’s interest in Cavani comes amid reports Solskjaer is willing to compromise his approach of signing young British players in order to add an experienced front-man.
The Red Devils have failed to score more than one goal in a game since their opening day hammering of Chelsea .
They have been heavily linked with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic, although a recent report from ESPN claimed they have cooled their interest in the Croatian, who has not been training with the Italian club as he prepares for a January exit.
