Surprise claims emerge about Barcelona's interest in mega-money Neymar transfer

Barcelona continue to be linked with a last-gasp attempt to re-sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain but their interest is reportedly only intended to please one man – Lionel Messi .

The reigning La Liga champions are still interested in luring their former No.11 back to the Nou Camp before the European transfer window closes on 2nd September.

Neymar has become unsettled in the French capital and rumours have been circulating since May about a potential return to Spain.

The Brazilian has remained coy about his future and still has three years left to run on his current contract with PSG.

But he is seemingly determined to return to La Liga, and wants to head back to Catalunya.

Neymar has scored 51 goals in 58 games during his time in the French capital

However, Barcelona’s attempts to bring back Neymar might only be designed to satisfy Messi, who is keen for the club to step up their pursuit of the player, according to Le Parisien .

The 27-year-old has been the subject of negotiations from Barca and rivals Real Madrid – but PSG have not accepted any offers for him.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has stated his desire to keep hold of Neymar who was again left out of the squad to face Rennes in Ligue 1 on Sunday, citing a ‘lack of fitness’ as the reason for his absence.

Tuchel sees Neymar as one of the French champions most valuable players and it is believed that he will be part of the German’s plans should a transfer fail to materialise.

Le Parisien write that Barcelona will submit a fresh offer for Neymar next week but there is some distance between the clubs on the matter.

It will be interesting to see if the Spanish side use a makeweight to land Neymar, but it won’t be Philippe Coutinho who is joining Bayern Munich on a season-long loan.

PSG were supposedly open to selling Neymar if they could secure a Barcelona player in return – not to mention a fee of around €100million.

Time is ticking for the clubs to reach an agreement and Neymar’s situation will be one to watch closely in the coming weeks.
