Ricky Hatton claims Tyson Fury could not have a better referee than Kenny Bayless for his rematch with Deontay Wilder.

Bayless has been confirmed as the third man in the ring for Fury’s world heavyweight clash with Wilder in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The highly-experienced and respected American refereed Hatton’s fights against Manny Pacquiao and Paulie Malignaggi and the Hitman is a fan.

Hatton says Bayless, who has been in charge for over 100 world title fights, including Floyd Mayweather Junior’s clash with Pacquiao, is exactly the sort of strong referee Fury needs for this fight.

“I think Kenny Bayless is a lovely fella, a very, very good referee,” he said.

Fury (R) faces off with Wilder at the press conference ahead of Saturday’s bout

“He’s refereed many big fights and he’s a very strong and dominant referee in character and that.

“With Tyson jabbing and moving, and Deontay’s ability to send people to sleep, you’ve got a big mixture in styles.

“Even when the fight’s going on, he still can’t keep his mouth closed. It’s very important the have a strong referee and you can’t get any stronger than Kenny Bayless.”

Bayless refereed Fury’s two-round stoppage of Tom Schwarz on his Las Vegas debut in June and the Gypsy King is happy with his appointment.

“Kenny Bayless is a very good referee,” he said. “I don’t have a problem with him.”

Bayless, 71, is famous for his final instruction to fighters before the first bell and he says: “What I say, you must obey.”

He also appeared in the Rocky spin-off film ‘Creed 2’ when he disqualified Viktor Drago in his first fight with Adonis Creed.

Fury is also relaxed at having three US judges – Glen Feldman, Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld – for the rematch because they are such respected officials.

He had British, Canadian and US judges for his highly-controversial draw with Wilder in their first fight 14 months ago.

“I’ve no concerns at all,” said Fury about the appointment of Feldman, Moretti and Weisfeld. “The Nevada State Commission did well in my last two fights here in Las Vegas.”
