Watford have confirmed Quique Sanchez Flores’ sensational return as head coach.

The Hornets announced they had axed Javi Gracia on Saturday after a winless start to the season.

And soon afterwards, Sanchez Flores’ return to Vicarage Road was confirmed, three years after leaving the club.

The Spaniard took over Watford in the summer of 2015 following their return to the Premier League.

He guided the club to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and a 13th-placed finish but was replaced the following summer.

Sanchez Flores, 54, has since had spells with Espanyoyl and Shanghai Shenhua.

He left his position with the Chinese Super League outfit in July and is now set to return to the Premier League side.

He replaces Gracia, who was sacked despite taking Watford to the FA Cup final last season.

Watford sacked manager Javi Gracia

Form this season has been shocking, starting the campaign with a 3-0 home defeat to Brighton .

They followed that up with a defeat at Everton before another home loss, this time 3-1 to West Ham .

The draw at Newcastle did little to relieve the pressure and the Watford board have acted during the international break.

Their winless run of eight matches dates back to last April, when they beat Huddersfield .

Arsenal are the first side to head to Vicarage Road under the Spaniard’s second spell as manager.
