What David Beckham told Mauricio Pochettino after watching Tottenham batter Crystal Palace

David Beckham told Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino he wished he was playing for Spurs after watching them demolish Crystal Palace 4-0.

Former Manchester United , Real Madrid and LA Galaxy star Beckham watched from the directors’ box in the stands at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Pochettino’s side saw off Palace thanks to two goals from Son Heung-Min, a Patrick van Aanholt own goal and a strike from Erik Lamela, to climb to third in the Premier League table.

And, impressed by what he saw, Beckham – who retired from playing in 2013 – told Pochettino afterwards that he wished he was still playing.

The conversation was revealed by the Tottenham boss after the game.

“I was talking with Beckham after the game and he said he wished he still played and that he played for Tottenham because this stadium is amazing,” said Pochettino in quotes reported by the Sun .

“We haven’t played many games here and it’s important to make this our house.

“With time we will be at home here and then it will become very difficult for opponents to win here.”

The win was Tottenham’s first since before the European transfer window closed on September 2, following a summer during which midfielder Christian Eriksen and defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were all linked with moves away.

Spurs had taken just 16 points from their previous 16 league games before Saturday, and Pochettino said he hoped the thrashing could be the catalyst for his side to recapture their consistency of early last season.

The manager said: “The team was unsettled and when that happens it’s difficult to perform as you want to.

“I’m so happy to recover that feeling but now we need to keep pushing. We have unbelievable players but we need to show that intensity in every game and then for sure we will fight for big things.”
